The math HeyGen doesn't show you
Cost per minute, by avatar generation
On Creator ($29, 600 credits): the newest Avatar IV/V costs 20 credits/min → 30 minutes/month → about $0.97 per minute. The older Avatar III costs 3 credits/min → 200 minutes/month → about $0.15 per minute. The 6× gap between generations is the single most important thing to know before subscribing: the demo quality you saw is the 20-credit tier.
Where the plans stop making sense
Business at $149 + $20/seat gets 1,500 credits — only 2.5× Creator's credits for 5× the base price; you're paying for seats, SSO and duration caps, not generation volume. If you're a solo creator hitting Creator's ceiling, buying a second Creator month of usage via Pro is usually better value than Business.
The scale complaint is real
The most common community sentiment (r/generativeAI and similar) is 'HeyGen is too expensive at scale' — at ~$1/minute for current-gen avatars, a weekly 10-minute video habit runs ~$40/month just in credits. That's the trade for the best-in-class avatar polish.
Is HeyGen worth it?
