What is Hunyuan Video?
Hunyuan Video (混元) is Tencent's family of open-source AI video generation models. The original December 2024 release was, at 13B+ parameters, the largest open-source video model of its time, with quality competitive with closed models; an image-to-video variant followed in March 2025, and HunyuanVideo 1.5 (November 2025) slimmed the line to 8.3B parameters tuned for consumer GPUs, covering both text-to-video and image-to-video.
Open weights are the appeal — and the catch. The original 13B model wants roughly 45–60GB of VRAM for inference; even the efficiency-focused 1.5 realistically needs a modern GPU, quantization tricks and ComfyUI plumbing to run well at 480p–720p. The license is Tencent's Hunyuan Community License, not plain Apache — with territory and usage restrictions worth reading before commercial self-hosting.
